Julia has had fun with the letter P lately. Party hats from school birthday parties at snack time (like the Krispy Kreme hat), pretty pigtails, and puzzles, especially this new imaginets set from Grandma Young. She can work the four and five piece cards with no help, and enjoys working others, too.

poor girl
I always knew that my calling to ministry would affect my family in many ways. I've always heard the talk of "preacher's kids," and have jokingly made references to Julia's red hair and being a preacher's daughter, saying "no sign of trouble there ..."
Well, today I got a glimpse of how much my calling will impact Julia's view of the world. We got out the sidewalk chalk for the first time in awhile. After she checked out the chalk and made sure that it worked, she looked to Amanda and said "draw da sanctuary." After that was concluded, she said "draw da chapel." Amanda looked at me and said "that's your child, right there." "Sho nuff," I nodded.

After drawing on some other parts of the driveway for awhile, we walked back toward the front door and the drawings. She then pointed down at the drawing and said "church. Dat's where I live."
Poor, poor girl. At least she's not just saying "Daddy lives there," or saying "don't make me go there."

visits with the grandparents
We've had a good time lately getting out of our little world here in Cullman and visiting with grandparents. In keeping with our fascination with Julia eating and taking pictures of that, here is Julia feasting on rice cereal at her two sets of grandparents' homes.

put that cereal right here, please, Nana
For the mommy&daddy memory book:
Seeing Amanda and Julia's hair matching in this picture reminds me of our fun with Julia's hair lately. We always get more of whatever question is the polite, banal chitchat/nosiness question , because we see and talk to so many people at church every week. You know the questions, the usual things like, "Have you gotten everything settled, all your boxes unpacked? (when you've moved in), "Have you gotten the nursery all ready?" and "Is she sleeping all night?" all the way to "How much weight have you gained?" (while you've been pregnant) and "How much weight have your lost?" (while your wife has been pregnant)...
Lately, it's Julia's hair - "Is that red hair?" "Where did the red hair come from?" and even, (unbelievably, considering Peter's hair...) "Where did the blond hair come from?" We've had fun thinking up answers we'd never give anyone - "Jesus" or "the milkman" or "We have the same hairstylist." Our standard way to end that conversation has been "I dunno" (while thinking, 'DUH!') or "It runs in the family". More people have started commenting that they think it is just like my hair, so anyway, we'll see. But here is proof that on one day and at one time, before I was too gray, Julia was my mini-me, hair and all.
